The katana is a weapon that dates back to ancient Japan and was used by Japanese samurai during the feudal eras. Katanas are made by hand, and takes many many layers, allowing the blade to be light, yet strong, and dangerously sharp. Due to the samurai’s loss of power, the katana became less of a practical weapon and was used more as decoration, and often a symbol.

∴ About Yamanbagiri Kunihiro:

Yamanbagiri Kunihiro is crafted by Horikawa Kunihiro from Horikawa school during the Azuchi Momoyama period(1568-1600). Yamanbagi Kunihiro is actually a replica of another nihontou, "Yamanbagirin". The smith, Horikawa Kunihiro was given orders by Nagao Akinaga to make a replica of Yamanbagiri.  Nagao Akinaga wanted a nihontou that was as spectacular as Yamanbagiri because Yamanbagiri is a nihontou that exterminated a mountain witch, Yamanba.  And that’s how the name Yamanba came about and Kiri/Giri means to cut. The Kunihiro behind is the name of the blacksmith.
