About Sanada Yukimura

Sanada Yukimura (1567–1615), also known as Sanada Nobushige, was one of the most famous samurai of Japan's late Sengoku period. He is remembered for his courage, military skill, and fierce resistance during the Siege of Osaka.

Yukimura fought for the Toyotomi forces during both the winter and summer campaigns of the siege. Despite facing a much larger Tokugawa army, his determined defense earned him a legendary reputation as a formidable warrior.

He became particularly famous for commanding the Sanada Maru, a fortified position built outside Osaka Castle during the Winter Siege. His military achievements and resistance made him an enduring symbol of samurai bravery.

Sanada Yukimura is also strongly associated with the Rokumonsen, or Six Coins, a crest traditionally linked with the Sanada clan. The symbol represented the six realms of Buddhist existence and became one of the most recognizable symbols associated with Yukimura.

The Rokumonsen Design

The Rokumonsen (六文銭), commonly translated as "Six Coins," is the famous crest associated with the Sanada clan.

According to tradition, the six coins represented the amount required to cross the Sanzu River into the afterlife. The symbol therefore came to represent a warrior's readiness to face death without fear.

Featured prominently on this katana's saya, the Rokumonsen gives the sword a distinctive connection to Sanada Yukimura and his samurai legacy.

Traditional Japanese Craftsmanship

Seki, Japan has been associated with swordmaking for centuries and remains well known for its blade-making tradition. This decorative katana reflects that heritage through its traditional Japanese sword styling and Sanada Yukimura-inspired design.

While this Value Katana is not intended to replicate a functional historical sword, it preserves the visual character and symbolism of the traditional Japanese katana as a collectible display piece.
