About Yamamoto Kansuke

Yamamoto Kansuke (c. 1501–1561) was a famous samurai warrior and military strategist who served Takeda Shingen during Japan's Sengoku period. Although details about his early life are limited, he is traditionally associated with the Imagawa-controlled area of Ushikubo.

Historical and traditional accounts portray Kansuke as a highly capable warrior and strategist despite suffering from physical disabilities, including blindness in one eye and difficulty walking. Some artistic depictions show him carrying a naginata, a traditional Japanese polearm.

Kansuke is particularly remembered for his role in the Battle of Kawanakajima. During the fourth battle in 1561, he reportedly launched a bold attack after believing his strategy had failed. He died in the fighting, leaving behind a lasting reputation for courage, loyalty, and military skill.
