About Naoe Kanetsugu

Naoe Kanetsugu (1560–1619) was a prominent samurai, strategist, and retainer of the Uesugi clan during the late Sengoku period. Born as Yoroku, he later married into the Naoe family and became head of the Naoe clan.

Kanetsugu distinguished himself at a young age through his military and administrative abilities. He served under Uesugi Kagekatsu and became one of his most trusted retainers. During the conflicts of the Sengoku period, Kanetsugu was involved in campaigns against powerful regional forces, including forces led by Sassa Narimasa and Maeda Toshiie.

Following the turbulent years of the Sengoku period, Kanetsugu eventually retired from active service. He is remembered in Japanese history for his loyalty, strategic ability, and long service to the Uesugi clan.
