Inspired by the Bakumatsu period and the legendary Onigami Maru Kunishige, the Onigami Maru Kunishige Deluxe Iaito is a Japanese-style practice sword designed for Iaido training and display. Featuring a zinc-alloy blade, an Aki Onigawara decorative hilt, a dry-lacquered stone-finish scabbard, and a black twisted leather-style winding, this iaito combines distinctive historical styling with traditional Japanese sword aesthetics.
The Bakumatsu period marked the final years of the Tokugawa Shogunate and a major turning point in Japanese history. Beginning with the arrival of Commodore Matthew Perry's ships and ending with the defeat of the remaining Tokugawa supporters, this turbulent era saw political conflict, shifting alliances, and the eventual transition from the Tokugawa Shogunate to the Meiji Era.
This iaito draws inspiration from the sword styles and atmosphere associated with this important period while providing a non-cutting design suitable for controlled Iaido practice and display.

The Onigami Maru Kunishige Deluxe Iaito combines traditional Japanese sword aesthetics with distinctive decorative details inspired by historical sword styles.
Its zinc-alloy blade is designed for non-cutting use, while the Aki Onigawara decorative hilt provides a striking focal point. The dry-lacquered stone-finish scabbard and black twisted winding further enhance the sword's traditional appearance.
The combination of detailed fittings, traditional-inspired construction, and Japanese craftsmanship makes this iaito an appealing choice for Iaido practitioners and collectors.
Bakumatsu Historical Inspiration
The Bakumatsu refers to the final years of the Tokugawa Shogunate, a period of significant political and social change in Japan. The era began amid increasing foreign pressure following the arrival of Matthew Perry's ships and continued through conflicts between competing political factions.
The period ultimately culminated in civil war and the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate, leading to the beginning of the Meiji Era. The Onigami Maru Kunishige design draws on the distinctive sword culture associated with this dramatic period of Japanese history.
Designed for Iaido
Iaido is a Japanese martial art centered on the controlled drawing, handling, and sheathing of the sword. Training emphasizes precision, posture, timing, concentration, and controlled movement.
The Onigami Maru Kunishige Deluxe Iaito features traditional sword proportions and a non-cutting zinc-alloy blade, making it suitable for controlled Iaido practice and display rather than cutting.
The blade does not actually cut. Do not point or swing the sword toward other people. The sword cannot be disassembled or adjusted, and users should handle it responsibly and follow appropriate training and safety practices.
Due to the use of natural wood and manual production processes, minor variations in size, weight, and finish may occur.
Please note: The sword stand shown in product photographs is not included.
