Traditional Japanese Craftsmanship
The Kasen Kanesada - Hosokawa Tadaoki Deluxe Iaito is produced in Seki, Gifu Prefecture, a city with a long history of Japanese blade craftsmanship.
The sword features a special alloy blade designed for iaito use, combined with a distinctive handle wrap and traditionally styled wooden scabbard. Its carefully proportioned construction and detailed finish give it the appearance of a classical Japanese sword while making it suitable for controlled practice and display.
Historical Inspiration
Kasen Kanesada is closely associated with Hosokawa Tadaoki, an important figure of Japan's Sengoku period. Tadaoki served three of the most influential leaders in Japanese history: Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu.
Beyond warfare and politics, Tadaoki was deeply involved in Japanese cultural pursuits, including tea ceremony, poetry, Noh theater, and painting. Historical accounts also describe his exceptionally fierce temperament, contributing to the stories surrounding the Kasen Kanesada sword.
This iaito takes inspiration from that historical connection while providing a non-cutting sword suitable for modern Iaido practice.
Designed for Iaido
Iaido is a Japanese martial art centered on the controlled drawing, handling, and sheathing of the sword. Training emphasizes precision, posture, timing, concentration, and controlled movement.
The Kasen Kanesada Deluxe Iaito features a special alloy blade and traditional proportions designed for controlled Iaido practice. The blade does not actually cut, making this sword intended for practice and display rather than cutting.
The sword cannot be disassembled or adjusted. Due to the use of natural wood and manual production processes, minor variations in size, weight, and finish may occur.
Please note: The sword stand shown in product photographs is not included.
